Silent operations, zero emissions, and extended endurance are no longer a dream. The industry's first-ever 50-ton electric-driven crane, the STC500BEV, has been put into action, notably at the construction site of the Changsha Xianglu Island Bridge project.
The Changsha Xianglu Island Bridge, designed to the I-grade waterway standard, boasts an impressive investment of approximately 2.71 billion yuan. Once complete, the bridge, which stands as the largest single-tower cable-stayed bridge over the Xiang River with a height of 202 meters, will accommodate vessels over 3000 tons.
What sets the STC500BEV crane apart on this bustling construction site is its remarkable silence, standing in stark contrast to the roaring engines of other equipment. With its high-performance battery and powerful motor, this crane promises robust power, zero-emission operations, and can work continuously for over two shifts on pure electric charge. In addition, it supports external power cabinet plug-in operations, eliminating any range anxiety.
She Wenxin, an operator from Changsha Hongxiang Crane & Rigging Co., Ltd., explained, "The STC500BEV primarily handles steel structure installations, loadings, and unloadings. It operates as smoothly as conventional fuel cranes, but with almost silent operations, making the working environment much more comfortable." Notably, operating costs for the electric crane are significantly lower than its diesel counterparts. "Compared to fuel-based cranes on this project that spend 3000 yuan in fuel every 10 days, the electric crane costs less than 800 yuan, and a full charge lasts 3-4 days," She added.
Furthermore, the electric crane requires less maintenance. The STC500BEV does not need urea additions or engine maintenance, leading to even lower operational costs. The complete reliance on electricity as its power source means substantially reduced pollution, aligning with sustainable development goals. She highlighted, "The construction team loves this crane, offering free charging facilities. Its emission-free operations are a major highlight of the project's push towards green construction."
